My Design Experience

Below I have outlined some major projects that I have worked on throughout my Engineering Career.

Wireless Picture Frame (iFrame)- First Quarter 2007
This was a project associated with ECE532 (Digital Systems Design) taught by Professor Chow at the University of Toronto. The final report for the project is located here and here.
Summary: The main goal of this project was to build on existing Digital Picture frames and create an online connectivity. This would allow the user to upload pictures to their picture frames around their house simply by visiting a local webpage. The entire system was built from scratch using Xilinx XUPV2P development board.
Other Details: Pearl Scripting, Verilog peripheral design, driver creation, Power PC running MontiVista Linux, Apache web server

Wireless Video Distribution System (LVDS) - 2006-2007
This was a project associated with ECE496 (4th Year Design Project) under the supervision of Elvino S. Sousa. The final report for the project is located here.
Summary: The main goal of this project was to create a way to transmit video between sources (DVD player, Satellite, game system) to the different viewing applicances (TV, Computer, phone) found in the home. This solves a few problems associated with tangled wires as well as being able to share media with other viewers in the home.
Other Details: Transmitter used Analog Devices EZ-Kit and receiver used Analog Devices Media Ranger 1 development boards, uClinus, IP Multicasting, MPEG4 video encoding/decoding

Battery Sorter - 2003-2004

Blue Sky Solar Car
Light System, Data Logger

C Programming - Game Creation

Serial Remote Control for TV

Wrote operating system in C

Created a Processor and wrote assembly programs

Actel Cortex M1

Bandpass Filter

Green Light

Finally, after much deliberation I have received the greenlight from the Engineering Science office to work with the ECE department on their 4rth Year Design Project. However, It will also count towards my Engineering Science Thesis Credit. This is great news and it is exactly what I wanted. I would like to thank the Engineering Science administration for listen to us and working with us in the Spirit of Engineering Science. And I would really like to thank Chris Joe for making sure they heard us and what we wanted. Here is the the email I received this morning from the division:

Hi Chris,
Many thanks for your email message. You are an excellent Option representative. After much discussion, the Division has come up with a plan that will permit students to participate in, but not register into the Design project offered to the Dept. of ECE students. Each student registers into their respective courses. James and Bryan will be required to register for the thesis course, ESC499Y while their groupmates would register into the Design project ECE496Y. James and Bryan would be required to help their groupmates submit whatever reports are required for ECE, which are really group reports, and they would individually be required to also submit a thesis document. In this, our EngSci's are fulfilling our thesis requirement, while being able to participate in the ECE design projects. I have already contacted the ECE496 coordinator to let him know that our EngSci's will not be registering with their group mates for ECE496.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Many thanks,

Anyway, now Divya (My Partner) and I have the motivation to secure a project for next year. We are worried because now the project will also count towards a Thesis Credit. So this will have to be ground breaking.

Design Project

In 4rth year of Engineer Science I will be working on a full year Design Project. This site will be a documentation of my effort.
